The handy wind meter with cup cross. The great advantage of the anemometer is undoubtedly the possibility of not having to hold the cup cross exactly in the wind direction. Normal vane anemometers have the disadvantage that they only measure exactly when the vane is held exactly in the wind direction.
The very smooth-running cup cross already responds to small flow velocities. What is a cup cross anemometer? "Ánemon" is the Greek word for wind. Thus, an anemometer is used to measure wind speed. The most commonly used is the cup cross anemometer. The airflow meter has a vertical axis and three or four egg-shaped half-shells that pick up the wind. Measurement Principle The faster the wind blows, the faster the open hemispheres rotate. The number of revolutions per minute is recorded electronically. If you count the revolutions per second or minute, you have a measure of the speed of the wind. In most cases, the cup cross anemometers are available in conjunction with a wind direction transducer, mounted on a frame, as a fixed measuring unit.
